In 2012, I set out to climb Cerro Aconcagua 6962m (22,838 ft), the highest mountain in South America, with my eyes on the summit. But as the only woman on the team, something unexpected happened—I got my period at over 6,000 meters above sea level. It was the first time I experienced this at such an altitude, and with no female guide or support, I felt unprepared. Though I was in pain, I wasn’t sick and felt capable of continuing. But the guide told me to turn back. That moment was incredibly frustrating. It wasn’t the mountain that stopped me—it was a lack of knowledge, experience, and support. That experience didn’t define me—it motivated me. Over the next five years, I worked harder, educated myself, and became stronger. In February 2017, I returned to Aconcagua and stood proudly at its summit, becoming the first Lebanese woman to raise my country’s flag on the highest peak in South America. Now, as a motivational speaker and storyteller, I bring the mountains and the lessons they’ve taught me to events, inspiring people to rise above their challenges. Because failure isn’t an identity—it’s an event that prepares you for your greatest victories.
Keep climbing. Your summit is waiting!.
